About the Job
About the Roundhouse:
Roundhouse is an iconic music and arts venue in Camden. Since the 1960s we’ve opened up space for creativity to empower people and communities – day in, night out. We’re on a mission to raise the creative potential of the UK so we give young people and artists the space to experiment, develop skills and be part of incredible moments that go down in history.
The internship:
In partnership with Greenpeace and the Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust, we are welcoming 2 interns to be part of the Roundhouse team in our iconic building. This is a practical programme, running 2 days a week over four months (16 weeks) with an 8-day onsite secondment at a UK Festival in June. The interns will also be supported by Creative Mentors associated with the Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust.
This opportunity is open to those aged 21 - 25 looking to gain entry level skills and experience in the creative industries. We welcome applications from people who feel they can bring their own skills, experiences and ideas to the table and empower those around them to do the same. We are keen to hear from young people who are under-represented in the live events industry or who have experienced barriers to accessing the industry. In line with our partnership with the Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust, we welcome applications from those at risk of homelessness, care leavers or those who are not currently in employment, education or training.
The 4-month programme aims to equip interns with:
Knowledge of live events sector & practical experience of working in different teams within the Roundhouse workforce, and onsite with Greenpeace at a UK festival
Employability skills: support with CV and interviews, whilst being supported by a Creative Mentor from the Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust.
Understanding of industry best practice and career development ‘in the field’ through a practical secondment at top UK Music Festival.
Please note: we will be recruiting 2 interns for this programme.
Our Internship Programme will start the week commencing 8th April 2024.
About you:
This internship might be for you if:
You are aged 21-25
You have a passion for the live events industry - this could be live concerts, festivals, club shows, production and more
You would love a career in this industry but don’t know where to start
You may have done some unskilled work in the sector but have never been employed in a production-based role in a live events setting
You are able to commit to an in-person internship, working 2 days per week, including potential evenings and weekends
You are able to commit to the full secondment (onsite placement) including the increased onsite hours during the month of June. Please note this secondment is out of London, however expenses in relation to this will be covered.
You are happy to be supported working outdoors in the field, even if this is something you have no experience in
You are looking to gain new experiences and engage with people from different backgrounds
This internship is NOT for you if:
You are not aged 21-25
You have already completed a paid internship
You already have entry or mid-level experience or skills in live events technical or production work
You are unavailable for the full dates of the internship, including offsite work during the month of June
Please note: During the month of June, whilst on secondment with Greenpeace, you will be required to be onsite for 8 consecutive days as well as 2 individual days earlier in the month. Your working hours are likely to increase and we will require you to be as flexible as possible during this time. Your working schedule will be agreed in advance with your line manager. Any additional time worked during this secondment will be compensated.
Equity, Diversity & Inclusion:
The Roundhouse champions diversity, equity and inclusion in the creative industries. We believe in a just society and in the benefit for all gained from the richness of diverse experiences and expressions within the UK’s cultural output.
Through this programme, the Roundhouse is actively seeking to increase diversity and address disadvantage and inequity in the creative sector. Under the provisions made for Positive Action in the Equality Act 2010 the Roundhouse may, in the event of identifying two or more candidates of equal merit, give preference to a candidate or candidates that are from a group that is disproportionately under-represented or otherwise disadvantaged within the creative workforce.
The successful candidate must have a current and acceptable DBS check, or be willing to undertake one.
